CDC activated its Emergency Operations Center to coordinate the agency's response to this emerging health threat and yesterday the Secretary of the Department Homeland Security, Janet Napolitano, declared a public health emergency in the United States. As Governments around the world are working to contain the spread of the Swine Flu (H1N1) virus, Deb, Inc., is uniquely qualified to help organizations and the population at large fight against flu.
The first step in successfully fighting flu is to understand how the virus is spread. Hands are the main vehicle for transmitting germs from one person to another, either directly or by touching shared objects and surfaces that may have been contaminated by the airborne flu virus.
The CDC has published the following guide of "everyday actions":
What You Can Do to Stay Healthy
· Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze.
Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.
· Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or
sneeze. Alcohol-based hands cleaners are also effective.
· Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread that way.
Try to avoid close contact with sick people.
· Influenza is thought to spread mainly person-to-person through coughing or
sneezing of infected people.
· If you get sick, CDC recommends that you stay home from work or school and
limit contact with others to keep from infecting them.
